Playing

Can cats touch diagonally?

No two cats may share a corner. Cats farther apart on the same diagonal are allowed, as long as their rows, columns and regions are distinct. See the no-touch lesson for a small exercise.

Does a bigger board mean a harder puzzle?

No. Size describes the cell count. Intro, Practice and Challenge are provisional groups based on fixed cats and logical deductions. They are being calibrated separately from size.

What do the dot and × mean?

A small dot marks a fixed cat that belongs to the original puzzle. An × is your reversible note that a cell cannot hold a cat. Switch to Place cat to place a cat; double-tapping is not required.

Saving progress

Where is my progress stored?

In localStorage in this browser, when available. There is no login or cloud sync. Another browser or device will have separate records. Export a JSON backup in My progress before clearing browser data.

Why did my progress disappear?

Private browsing, cleared site data, disabled storage or a full browser storage allocation can prevent records from persisting. Play still works without saving. A previously exported compatible backup can be imported; the site cannot recover deleted local data from a server.

What happens with an incompatible backup?

The import checks the version, structure, values and puzzle IDs before changing records. An invalid file is rejected. A compatible import merges completed records and keeps the faster matching result; existing current saved games and settings are kept.

Solvers

Does the screenshot solver upload my image?

No. Image decoding, cropping, region sampling and search happen on this device. Images and custom boards are temporary browser-memory data, not URL parameters or analytics payloads.

Why did the screenshot regions look wrong?

Similar region colors, dark marks, shadows, tilted boards or an incomplete crop can confuse sampling. Use an upright board, match the crop to the outer grid, choose its size, then edit every mistaken region. Add cats and × marks yourself.

What if a board has more than one solution?

The solver says More than one solution after finding two valid arrangements. You can inspect the two examples or edit the input. Check missing fixed cats and region boundaries. It does not select one arrangement and falsely call it unique.

What does Search not finished mean?

The local time budget expired before the search established its result. Finding one arrangement so far is not a uniqueness proof. Continue searching, cancel, or edit the board. Canceling keeps the board.

Why can the solver find an answer but not give a hint?

Search and explanation are different tasks. A search can establish a solution using branching, while the hint engine only explains supported logical deductions. If no reliable next step is available it says so, instead of presenting a search answer as an obvious move.

Printing

How do I print or save a PDF?

Choose size, difficulty, puzzle count and A4 or Letter in Printables, then Open print view. Your browser supplies Print or Save as PDF. Answers are off by default and appear on a separate page only when included. No server conversion or paid download is required.

Daily

When does the daily puzzle change?

At 00:00 UTC according to your device clock and the static schedule. A game already in progress is not replaced at midnight. If you view a date beyond the published schedule, practice remains available. The first schedule covers 15 October 2026 through 12 April 2027.

Are there global scores or accounts?

No. Times, hint use and completions describe your local records. Sharing copies a puzzle link or spoiler-free result; it does not submit to a ranking. The same puzzle may be replayed without inventing another daily completion.
